In November 2027, NFMRI will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. To help celebrate this milestone, we will be holding our bi-ennial conference and awards event ‘Research with Purpose 2027’ on the 23-25 November 2027 at Pacific Bay Resort in Coffs Harbour, NSW.
To celebrate this milestone, NFMRI announced a special competitive grant round for a grant of up to $1 million at our annual general meeting yesterday. It is expected that the recipient will be announced at our 2027 conference.
About the Milestone Grant Round
A single grant of up to $1 million over a period of up to three years will be awarded to an Australian Publicly Funded Research Organisation (PFRO) (e.g. University, MRI) with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This grant extends the single study applications into a planned project of key milestone-based studies that would not require consecutive applications.
EOIs are open for pre-clinical biomedical research projects across ALL diseases/conditions that may lead to a regulated product (e.g. medicine, vaccine, diagnostic or device). The innovation must be pre-commercial with no IP encumbrances and wholly owned by Australian PFROs.
Expression of interest for this milestone grant will open on the 3rd August 2026. More information about this new funding opportunity can be found on our website.
Opens: 3rd August 2026
Closes: 6pm AEDT on 29th October 2026
Portfolios: Portfolios 2 & 3 only
EOI cap: There is a cap of three EOI per PFRO as agreed by the Technology Transfer or Business Development Office of the institution.
Eligibility criteria: Our usual eligibility criteria and funding exclusions apply. EOI including ineligible/excluded items for NFMRI funding will be disqualified.
An online Q&A session will be held on Monday, 20th July 2026 at 11:00am AEST. Register your interest here. Institutions wishing to host a more detailed presentation should complete a speaker request form here.
